Kristoffer Borgli is a Norwegian filmmaker. His feature film Sick of Myself premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and earned him Norway’s Amanda Award for Best Screenplay. He subsequently wrote and directed his first English-language feature, Dream Scenario, starring Nicolas Cage. The film premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, and Cage received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance.
Borgli’s third feature, The Drama, stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. Released by A24 in 2026, the film grossed more than $130 million worldwide, becoming one of the studio’s highest-grossing releases.
Borgli began his career directing music videos and short films. His short film Former Cult Member Hears Music for the First Time was selected for the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.
Borgli was born in 1985 in Sarpsborg, Norway, a quiet town at the edge of the forest, where an active logging community formed the backbone of daily life. His high school years were overshadowed by the unresolved death of a classmate whose body was found on a shoreline, wrapped in plastic, an event that left a lasting imprint on the town. During these formative years, Borgli began working at a local video store, where he developed an enduring interest in cinema that set him on the path to filmmaking.
